10 Things I'm Grateful for this Christmas

Tuesday, 27 December 2016

Hi guys! Merry Christmas! I hope you all had the most wonderful day and have sufficiently recovered from the food overload....I'm not sure if I have! If I'm completely honest my Christmas wasn't quite as nice as I'd hoped as I had a bit of an anxious day which sometimes happens when I build myself up too much for an event, so I've pulled together this list of all the wonderful things I've got to be grateful of in my life to cheer myself up. I hope you find something here that you can relate to!

1. I've been lucky enough to travel overseas twice this year, once through a trip we won and the other a trip we already had booked. There's nothing better to widen your horizons and refresh your mind than a trip to a new country!

2. I've never had to go without-I may worry about finances but I've never been in a position to miss out on anything essential and for that I'm eternally grateful.

3. I'm able to study medicine and so far have managed to get through all my exams without any major issues, which I'm sure has more than a little bit of luck involved!

4. My body works perfectly well and I don't have any major health concerns to worry about. I'm capable of both running 5km and eating a large bowl of ice cream and I'm very happy with that!

5. I have a wonderful boyfriend who supports me in everything I do and keeps me strong when I'm feeling the total opposite.

6. My family are also my friends and the people who understand me best, which I feel super lucky about.

7. Cute puppies exist-and dogs in general- especially mine who is the biggest friendliest sook in the world!

8. I live in a safe and peaceful part of the world (aside from the snakes, crocodiles and jellyfish haha).

9. I have the most understanding and dedicated friends who have been by my side through thick and thin, over all the years and struggles that we've been through.

10. I have the potential for so many happy days ahead. At the end of the day all we have is hope, and doesn't that make us all incredibly lucky?

I've loved writing this post, I feel quite Christmas-y and grateful for all the great things in my life. I'd fully recommend sitting down and making your own list if you have the chance!
Wishing you all the most magical end of 2016 and New Year!

November Playlist

Wednesday, 30 November 2016

Hi guys! Happy last day of November! I thought the coffee cup was an accurate representation of my November- it started with a crazy amount of study but I've finally been able to chill out and catch up on so much life stuff in the second half of the month and it's been so damn nice. I've been listening to a lot of cheerful, upbeat tunes this month, so I've compiled all my favourites into this playlist.

I'll Follow- Fancy Cars. This has been a strong favourite all month and I'm still not sick of it!

Paradise- Eric Demn.

Dreaming- Water Park.

Fahrenheit- XY&O.

Changes- Oliver Nelson, River. This song makes you feel that change can't possibly be a bad thing!

Tequila- The Ironix.

Silence- Marcus Alexander.

Absolutely Smitten- dodie. I've been absolutely adoring Dodie's new EP, but this song is my absolute favourite. It's so cute and cheerful!

Daydream- Broiler.

Good Grief- Bastille.

What You Waiting For- Gazzo.

Gold- Dash Berlin. I only discovered this song yesterday but added it to the playlist when I'd only heard a few seconds, I love it!

Blackout- Tritonal.

Love On Me- Galantis. This is so damn catchy! I've had it on repeat for the last few days!

By Your Side- Jonas Blue.

Someone Who Needs Me- Bob Sinclar.

Kiss It Better- Rihanna.

Give It To Me Twice- Sean Kingston.

You can find the playlist on Spotify here. I hope you enjoy it! Let me know what songs you've been loving lately in the comments!

November Favourites

Monday, 28 November 2016

Hi guys! Well, here we are at the end of another month that's gone so incredibly fast-I say it every month but it's always just as true! My November started quite stressfully with my Uni exams but has improved significantly now that I'm on holidays... I've been doing lots of reading, swimming and general relaxing over the last couple of weeks which I really can't complain about! My favourites this month are a bit of an eclectic mix but I've been seriously loving them all, so let's get into it!

My first favourite for the month is the Maybelline MasterContour palette. This is my first proper contour kit and I'm loving it! It's really easy to use and the colours are lovely, especially the highlight which is totally amazeballs. The contour shade can tend to be a little bit muddy but this can be fixed with a little bit of blending...so all in all my face has never looked so on point!

My next favourite is this gorgeous 2017 planner and pen. I purchased these in Japan separately, but look how well they go together! The pen says 'step outside and get some air' in gold lettering which I think is absolutely adorable. Also, isn't it the most frustrating thing when you only have a calendar up until December and need to plan for the next year? I'm currently doing a lot of planning for travel over Christmas, Uni placements and organising moving next year so the planner has been the best purchase to help keep me organised!

Another slightly random favourite is this Happy Sol Cacao Maca + Chia powder. It's basically a healthy smoothie additive to add taste and nutrients- the packaging is so cute and it tastes amazing! *Insert heart eyes emoji here* It's made by an Australian company so I'm not sure if you can get it elsewhere in the world but I'd fully recommend it if you can! I also have the coconut water and superfruit one which is nice but not quite at the level of this one-I've been blending this with a frozen banana and milk and it honestly tastes like a chocolate smoothie whilst still being super healthy!

My last favourite for the month is The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul by Deborah Rodriguez. I read this in Japan and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since! I've been reading lots of fluffy romance novels lately so this was a great change in the form of a mix of more serious issues and lighthearted wonderful characters. I won't give away all it's secrets as I do intend to write a full review of it at some point, but I couldn't leave it out of this post as I loved it so much!

So that's some of the things I've been loving this month-have you tried any of these? What have you been loving lately?
Here's to an incredibly happy, festive and stress-free December for us all!

Thrift Store Finds

Wednesday, 23 November 2016
Hi guys! I'm back with another thrift store haul for you all! As I mentioned in my last one, I'm the biggest fan of 'op shopping' as we call it here in Aussie. I like to pop in to my favourite thrift stores every week or two and have a rummage, and I almost never leave empty handed! Here's a few of my favourite finds from the last couple of months.

The Versatile Blogger Award

Tuesday, 22 November 2016

Hi guys! The lovely Rai over at Utter Ardour tagged me in the Versatile Blogger Award recently which I am very excited about! The aim of this tag is to share seven facts about yourself...the timing of this is perfect as I had actually been thinking about doing another of these posts as my last '10 Facts About Me' post did so well. Thanks so much to Rai for tagging me-she has a wonderful lifestyle blog and you should definitely check her out. Without further ado, let's get into it!

1. I have green eyes with brown spots in them-I've had all kinds of people comment and take photos of my eyes when they notice them, it's quite funny!

2. I'm half a doctor! I just finished my 3rd year of my 6 year degree, I'd love to be a GP in a cute little town one day.

3. I'm a qualified sailing instructor, although I haven't taught for quite a long time now! I love sailing for the peace and escape it gives me, as well as the adrenaline rush when you get going fast (trust me, sailing might sound calm and boring but it definitely isn't!)

4. When I was younger I wanted to be a palaeontologist when I grew up and was very proud of the fact that I could spell it. However I gave up that dream when I realised I wouldn't be getting a dinosaur named after me anytime soon!

5. I'm fairly fluent in German- I went to Germany on exchange for 6 months and learnt German for 7 years total. I'm a bit rusty now though, as I haven't spoken it frequently since high school!

6. My favourite Disney film is Beauty and the Beast, I just relate to Belle so much. 'I want adventure in the great wide somewhere!' Tell me I'm not the only one who is incredibly excited for the new movie?!

7. I have a huge affinity for mountains-nothing makes me happier than putting on my boots and going hiking. I really love hiking in general, but definitely prefer it in places like New Zealand that aren't as hot as here in Aussie!

I tag:

Can you guys relate to any of these? What's something that not many people know about you?

Japan Adventures

Thursday, 17 November 2016
Hi guys! So something pretty crazy happened a couple of months ago-my family won a trip to Japan! We had a limited time that we could take the trip so we went at the start of October. After all the fun (ha) of exams in the last few weeks, the trip feels years ago already! However I have some lovely photos that I thought it was about time I shared. I hope you enjoy this little glimpse of what we got up to!

The flight from Cairns to Osaka was about 7 and a half hours, and we arrived fairly late in the evening. This view was something pretty special to wake up to on the first morning! We stayed at the Parkfront Hotel which is right next to the entrance to Universal which was pretty exciting, to say the least. Our first day was spent attempting to navigate the train system despite speaking absolutely no Japanese and exploring the Osaka Castle. We did pretty well finding our way around, and I really enjoyed the Osaka Castle despite the crowds and heat, which took some getting used to. I'm a huge history fan and would totally recommend getting an audio guide, as there was very little English translation on the displays inside and I was a bit disappointed not to learn more about the story of the castle!

I'm Back!

Sunday, 13 November 2016

Have you ever taken a break from blogging for a couple of weeks and felt like you've completely forgotten how to do it when you get back? Typing words on a blank page shouldn't be this hard but right now it seriously is!

My To-Read List

Sunday, 16 October 2016

Hi guys! I'm currently 3 short weeks out from exams and therefore don't exactly have the time to be reading as much as I'd like to (or at all!) In times like these I like to keep track of all the books that I hear about by making a list of all the ones I need to get my hands on as soon as time allows! I thought I'd share a few of the titles that are on my list at the moment, which I will definitely be looking out for once exams are through!

Universal Studios Japan

Tuesday, 11 October 2016
Hi guys! So I recently got back from a week in Japan, and one of the big highlights of the trip was our day at Universal Studios! I've actually never been to a theme park before, so this was a super exciting day for me-plus who could not be excited about Harry Potter World?! I thought I'd share a few of my photos and stories with you all before I manage to forget it all in crazy pre-exam stress!

Book Review- The Moonlight Dreamers

Saturday, 8 October 2016

Hi guys! On Monday I handed in my final assignment for the semester, which was such a huge relief! In celebration of getting through a crazy couple of weeks at uni, I thought I'd treat myself to a new book and this is the one I chose. It's been a while since I've written a book review (or even read a book for that matter!) so I thought it was about time I brought you another!

September Playlist

Tuesday, 4 October 2016

Hi guys!
I apologise for the somewhat late playlist this month...as you might have guessed if you follow me on Instagram, I've been a bit distracted gallivanting around Japan in the last week! (Keep your eyes peeled for a blog post about it soon!) I considered skipping the playlist this month as it's already October, but I've done it every month this year and I really didn't want to break the tradition. So here's a playlist of the songs I loved the most in September!

Rest Of My Life- Electric Bodega.

I Wanna Be That Guy- Matthew John Kurz.

Happy October everyone, hoping it's a month of happiness and warm fuzzies! Do let me know what songs you're loving at the moment!

How To Increase Your Productivity

Wednesday, 21 September 2016

Hi guys! As a medical student and general procrastinator of everything in life, I'm always looking for ways to make myself more productive. Over the last year or two I've tried a lot of different strategies to try and increase my productivity and I think I've finally found some that work pretty well for me, so I thought I'd share some of them with you today.

Work out if you're able to study with music on
I used to think I could study fine with music on, but lately I've found that it can get in the way of me remembering things as effectively. Through a bit of trial and error, I've worked out that there are certain situations where music can help me and others where it just stops me from thinking straight. For example, when I'm just copying down notes listening to music can help keep me motivated, whereas when I'm trying to understand or memorise a complicated concept music most definitely does not help! So it's best to work out whether you're able to focus better with or without music so you can be as productive as possible.

Listen to music on a seperate device to what you're studying on.
This might sound like a weird tip, but stick with me! If you do find that you can listen to music whilst studying, make a point of doing it on a seperate device-for example if you're typing on your laptop, listen to music from your phone or iPod if possible. My reasoning for this is that if I have my headphones plugged into my laptop, i'm ten times more likely to just click into Youtube or Facebook and start watching videos-whereas if I have my headphones plugged into something else, that little effort of unplugging them and then plugging them into my laptop can discourage me from getting distracted. I'm not sure if this just makes me sound super lazy, but it works!

Install a blocking software.
If you're anything like me, you can try as many nice techniques like leaving your phone in another room as you like...I'll still find a way to get on Facebook and waste half an hour in the blink of an eye. I finally gave up playing nice with myself a while ago and installed a blocking software on my laptop. I use StayFocusd, which is a google chrome extension, and I'd totally recommend it-I've tailored it to let me on Facebook for only 15 minutes per day, and then it blocks my access until the next day. I've also deleted the Facebook app from my phone (I kept messenger though) which is really helpful. It might sound a bit hardcore but it seriously helps if you're lacking in the self control department like me!

Change up your location.
This is a tip that can be a bit hit-and-miss with me, but when it works it seriously works! If I'm really struggling to get myself in the zone trying to get work done in my usual study spot, it can often help to move to a new spot to try and get myself in the right mindset. I can sometimes find it hard to settle in a new spot, but if I'm not getting things done in my usual place I'll take a little break to reset, make some coffee or a snack and take myself to a new spot to start over-usually somewhere outside or the library. Sometimes a fresh start is all you need to kick yourself into being productive!

Be kind to yourself.
I'm such a reward oriented person (aren't we all?), so I find it really useful to consistently reward myself with breaks or snacks (healthy ones where possible) whilst studying. I also find it super useful to tell myself I can do something really nice in the evening if I just get this done, like go out for dinner or watch a movie. I find it so motivating when I know I have to get things done so I can go have my fun time afterwards!

I'm now going to ruin your good impression of me being super productive by telling you I'm writing this post while procrastinating finishing a uni assignment... #soproductive

So what methods do you guys use to increase your productivity? I'd love to know!

Little Happy Things

Tuesday, 13 September 2016

Hi guys! I was scrolling through Pinterest the other day and kept coming across these lists of 'some good things' and it got me thinking about the kind of little things that give me a lot of happiness. So for today's post I thought I'd make my own list of 'Happy Things' to share with you.

HAPPY THINGS:

  • The feel of sand on your toes
  • Breakfast foods at any time of the day
  • That burst of energy when you're on a run and you just have to start sprinting
  • The moment when you first dive under the water to go swimming and the world just melts away
  • When you look at a friend and have that big surge of affection and think 'I like you. You're an excellent human'
  • Getting lost in a bookstore
  • Doggy cuddles
  • The feeling of contentment when you've been hiking all day and finally get to your campsite
  • When you realise Christmas is coming soon
  • Spending an evening with your family and feeling all wrapped up in love and fondness
  • Bunches of flowers
  • Quiet moments sitting near the sea
  • That feeling when you first hear a song and know after 2 seconds that you're going to love it
  • When you're a bit tipsy and you're laughing with your friends and everything is happy and bubbly
  • Dancing all night
  • Disney movies
  • Skype calls with friends in other countries who make you feel like everything is right in the world
  • An outfit that works just as well as you'd imagined it
  • Massive cosy scarves on a chilly day
  • The boss-ass bitch feeling when you're carrying a takeaway coffee
  • Clear blue sky breezy days
  • Waking up in a new country
  • Finding a cute spot to study
  • When motivation strikes out of nowhere and suddenly you're gonna change the world
  • Long comfortable chats while watching the sunset

I'm sure I could sit here forever coming up with these but I have an assignment to finish so I'll leave it at that! Perhaps I could do a second edition at some point? Writing this has honestly left me feeling so warm and fuzzy-life is good!

Do you guys like these things too? What are your 'Happy Things'?

Welcome To The Crybaby Club

Sunday, 4 September 2016
I'm a crybaby. I always have been. Tears have been the way I expressed my emotions since the moment I first arrived on this earth, and unlike most others I never seemed to properly grow out of it. I've gone through life feeling like I'm too sensitive, that I cry too easily and there must be something wrong with me-everyone else can control their emotions, why am I always crying all over the place?

It's taken me so many years of struggling with all these emotions to start to come to terms with this part of myself. That is, until I discovered The Crybaby Club!

For those that haven't heard of it, The Crybaby Club is a girl gang and website celebrating the more emotional residents of the world. I'd try to rephrase their motto but it's literally perfect! They are dedicated to 'celebrating sensitivity as strength, lifting each other in love and support, and proving that just because we cry doesn't mean we can't get things done'. This just speaks to me so much. That little part of me that has always been ashamed of my tears feels so much more ok with all this love and understanding directed towards it!

Another post that got me thinking on this subject was this one from Hannah Witton, where she talks about the last 3 times she cried. I really loved this post because it helps to normalise tears as a very valid coping mechanism for dealing with whatever life throws at you (is there anything better than having a good cry then drying your eyes and moving on with life??) Just to add to that discussion, I thought I'd share with you the last 3 times I cried:

1. I thought too much about life and how fast it's rushing by and got a bit scared. Please excuse me while I go and lie face-down on my bed and have an Existential Crisis of Dan Howell proportions.

2. I watched a ridiculously cheesy Hindi movie in which I started sobbing uncontrollably at the end when everyone was in love and it was all happily-ever-after.

3. I wasn't invited to a party that almost all of my friends were at, which I was totally fine about until I saw all their snapchat stories dancing and having fun without me...the FOMO was so real!

So, are you a crybaby too? It's time to celebrate all of us emotional human beings who just need a good cry to make life alright every now and again! After all, there are a lot worse things than a few tears right?

Here's to us crybabies all over the world, embracing our tears as strength!

August Faves & Playlist

Wednesday, 31 August 2016

Hi guys! I'm gonna be completely cliche here, but seriously, where has August gone? It only feels like last week that I was writing my July favourites! August has had its fair share of stress and confusion in my life, but I'm finishing on a high point feeling pretty on top of my study which is really good! I've had a few products that I've been really loving this month, so I though I'd share them all with you.

Savvy Ultra Matte Lip Colour in Lights, Camera-
This is such a great matte lipstick for a really affordable price! The Ultra Matte range only cost $8 each and the quality is pretty good for that price. They're quite creamy, although still a bit drying on the lips as most matte lipsticks tend to be. This lipstick is definitely not kiss proof, but stays put pretty well the rest of the time and the colour is gorgeous, I've had so many compliments on it! (I'm wearing it in this Instagram post if you're curious what it looks like on!) I'm definitely considering picking up a couple of other colours from this range.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in Light-
I tried my sister's one of these a few months ago and have been wanting to get one of my own ever since, so I finally bit the bullet and bought one. It's an amazing highlighting concealer, the best I've found yet to hide my uni-induced dark circles! It hardly creases, and the only issue I have with it is that the sponge applicator tends to give out a bit too much at once, but it definitely makes sure I look very awake for my classes!

Maybelline The Blushed Nudes Palette-
A rose gold eyeshadow palette full of gorgeous shades? I was never going to be able to resist this! I've been using this so much lately, especially all the shades on the left. I'm really impressed with how easy to blend these Maybelline eyeshadows are, they're so lovely to work with!

Garnier Micellar Water-
As you can see from how empty the bottle is, I've been using this quite a lot lately. I'm not entirely sure what its intended purpose is, but I've been using it as a general makeup remover before getting in the shower and it makes my skin feel so lovely! I definitely think I'll be investing in a bigger bottle when this one runs out!

Thankful Journal-
I bought this at Kikki K about a month ago and I'm seriously loving it! Basically it has space for you to write three things you're grateful for each day, and I find this such a lovely relaxing thing to sit down and do just before I go to bed. I'm not that great at remembering to use it but it definitely makes me a lot happier when I do, so I'm aiming to start making a habit of doing it every day!

Phone Case-
I found this gorgeous copper and marble patterned phone case in Sportsgirl a few weeks ago and didn't think twice about buying it! I mean, copper and marble, how much more blogger cliche could I get? Sadly it's chipping a bit on the edges already as you can see! I still love it, but I'm definitely hoping to invest in a really nice quality phone case sometime in the next few months.

So that's it for my favourites this month! Have you tried any of these products? What have you been loving lately?

My next post is going to have an extra special themed playlist in it so I thought I'd skip making a whole post on this month's playlist. If you'd like to listen to my August Playlist on Spotify, you can find it right here!

Wishing you all a wonderful September!

Turning FOMO Into GOMO

Monday, 22 August 2016

As a medical student, total introvert, and someone who's generally in bed before 10pm, I tend to suffer a lot of FOMO (AKA fear of missing out) in my life! So many times I'll be too worn out or busy to go to an event, but will then end up regretting not going for at least the next week...the sadness is so real! Social media and the numerous platforms where we can share just how cool our lives are have made this even worse, with me being able to get real-time updates on that cool party my friends are at while I'm stuck in the library studying yet again. A few months ago I decided that I wanted to try and change this, and I've actually been doing pretty well at getting rid of my chronic FOMO problem, so I thought I'd share how I've been doing it!

How to turn your FOMO into GOMO:

  • Stay balanced. You can't enjoy your 'going out more often' if you're burnt out or stressing about other things in your life! I like to use the events I have planned to motivate me to get my study done efficiently and without procrastinating (and trust me, I've tried everything to stop myself procrastinating!) I find having fun things planned really encourages me to be more organised and get things done so I can go out and have fun guilt free! It's also important to make sure you're scheduling time for yourself, especially if you're an introvert like me- going out too much can be completely exhausting so make sure you're putting yourself first!

  • Mix it up. It's way too easy to get caught up in thinking 'there's nothing exciting to do in my town!' I'd bet a lot on that not being true though! There's so many things to do when you think outside the box. Try rock climbing or ice skating, going exploring in your town, going to a party you wouldn't normally have, joining a class or uni group (if you're a student of course). I try to spread the events I pick between different friendship groups and totally different activities, and I always try to get out of my comfort zone a bit. I've even started signing up for things that none of my friends are going to, and just trusting that I can always meet people and make new friends! It's not as scary as it sounds once you get started, and it's such an empowering feeling once you realise how much you can do for yourself! I hear the phrase 'just say yes' thrown around all the time, but it's honestly the best thing to start doing!

  • Put your phone down. I always know I've been having fun when I realise I haven't even thought of picking up my phone for a few hours! Yes, photo evidence of fun things is great, but contrary to popular belief, if photos don't exist it did still actually happen! (Ooh controversial, I know) In this day and age it's even more essential to get some screen-free time where you can just enjoy the moment for what it is- without having to upload it to Instagram 5 minutes later!

  • Stuck for inspiration? I have the solution! Eventbrite are determined to squash your FOMO by turning it into GOMO with their innovative site that can help you find or even plan your own events.  If you want to find what events are happening in your area, definitely check them out-it's the perfect way to find out what's going on in your town! I've actually discovered a few events in my area in the next few weeks that I'm thinking of signing up for, so I'd totally recommend giving it a go!

So how are you guys going to turn your FOMO into GOMO?

Brisbane Lush Haul

Saturday, 13 August 2016

Hey guys! My adventures in Brisbane last weekend led me into Lush (oh, what a surprise) and I picked up a few goodies that I've been drooling over for quite a while now. My room currently smells like a Lush store and I'm not complaining one bit! I thought I'd share these with you now, as I'm sure they're going to disappear rather quickly!

Think Pink Bath Bomb-This one looks and smells very similar to the Fluffy Egg Bath Bomb that Lush brought out at Easter, which is totally OK with me as Fluffy Egg is one of my favourite bath bombs ever. I love the colour this goes in the water, and combined with the sweet scent it's just the ultimate pick-me-up!

Sakura Bath Bomb- I just had to pick this one up in honour of the trip to Japan my family will be going on soon! The description reads 'Imagine the cherry blossom falling softly... in a warm gentle breeze into your bath'...how cute! This one has a really gentle scent and I can imagine it will be so relaxing to use.

Sex Bomb Bath Bomb- Anyone else got the song stuck in their head? Because I definitely do! This bath bomb has scents of jasmine, sage and ylang ylang and it smells absolutely divine! I can tell it's going to look amazing in the bath as well. I absolutely can't wait to try it!

The Experimenter Bath Bomb- I've been wanting to try this one for so long, it's so colourful and I've seen it feature on Instagram so much! It has a lovely vanilla scent, but I am wondering what this will look like once the colours mix in the bath-I can imagine it might turn a wonderful shade of grey? I'm going to find out!

Frozen Bath Bomb- This is another bath bomb I've had my eyes on for ages! I was so surprised when I smelt this bath bomb, I thought it was bound to have a cool minty kind of scent-but it's grapefruit! It was totally unexpected but also works so well. The blue bath bombs are always my favourites so I'm really excited to try this one out!

Did you catch my last Lush Haul? Have you tried any of these bath bombs? What are your favourite Lush Products?

Brisbane Adventures

Thursday, 11 August 2016
Hey guys! Last weekend I went on a bit of a whirlwind trip all the way to Brisbane! I flew down to meet my Mum and sister for Mum's birthday, and we managed to squeeze an awful lot of exciting things into two short days...so I thought I'd tell you about some of the things I got up to!

I caught a flight down early (VERY early!) on Saturday morning. My plane got in a couple of hours before my family's so I just sat in a cafe and did some study while I waited for them to arrive... #medstudentlife

After I'd met up with my fam, we went out for lunch at the Pig n Whistle (10/10 would recommend!) The food was amazing, and I also discovered that Rekorderlig strawberry lime cider is amazing! Unfortunately I also discovered that there's 1.6 standard drinks in a bottle after I'd finished it and was decidedly giggly (ok not really that unfortunate haha!)

July Favourites

Saturday, 30 July 2016

Hi guys! Happy last day of July! This month has really been a total rollercoaster for me, with a lot of downs and a whole lotta ups as well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a much calmer and more focused August! As you can see, my favourites this month are mainly beauty related items with a couple of other life things thrown in as well. I hope you enjoy them!

Impulse Spray Perfume- This reminds me so much of high school, when everyone used these even though we weren't allowed! It's strange how different you can feel when you start using a different scent, but this doesn't require quite so much commitment as buying a whole new perfume! This one is 'Illusions' and I'm really enjoying using it for something a bit different.

Revo Lip Balm- I picked this up because it reminded me of the EOS lip balms that everyone seems to rave about. This one is watermelon scented, it's so smooth and tastes really sweet. I wasn't sure whether I'd like the big applicator but I really do!

Nude by Nature Makeup Brushes- I bought these as a pack about a month ago, and have been loving them so much! They're so soft and make my makeup application so much easier, as well as making it look so much better...plus they're such a pretty rose gold colour, what more could you want?!

Maybelline MasterPrecise Eyeliner- I'm absolutely terrible at eyeliner, but this is definitely making it as easy as possible! I love the tiny point, it's a lot easier to use than my old Maybelline Master Graphic eyeliner!

Formula 10.0.6 Skin Clarifying Mud Mask-I've been scared of using mud masks for so long thinking that they'd make my acne flare up, but this honestly makes my skin so much better! I use it every 3 days or so and it really seems to make a difference...and it smells so good too!

Radical Self Love book- I won't talk too much about this as I'll do a full review soon, but for anyone who remembers my Instagram post wondering if this would change my life? It has, it totally has!

Discover Weekly Spotify Playlist- This actually makes me look forward to Mondays! For anyone who hasn't seen this, every Monday Spotify will update your personalised Discover Weekly playlist based on the music you've been listening to. Without fail, I always love most of the songs in my Discover Weekly playlist, it helps me find so many good new songs! (This is the main reason my monthly playlists have been getting so long!)

So that's all my favourites this month! What have you been loving lately? Do you have any good self-love books to recommend?
Hoping you all have a happy sunshiney August!

What's In My Uni Bag?

Thursday, 28 July 2016

Hey guys! Today is my first offical day back at uni, so in honour of this I thought I'd do a little feature on what I carry around with me to classes. Being prepared and organised makes your life so much easier when it comes to studying at uni, so I always make sure to have these few essential items with me so I'm prepared for whatever situation arises!

First things first, the bag! This bag is a fairly new purchase, and I am completely in love with it. It's the Macy Computer Tote from Kate Hill in a lovely light blue shade. Yes, it's a bag with my name on it and yes, this makes me very excited! It has two compartments, which is perfect for keeping my laptop safe from scratches whilst also having room for everything else I need! It has really sturdy straps as well so I never have to fear that it's going to break on me. It honestly fulfils my needs perfectly, I'm very happy about this purchase!

MY UNI ESSENTIALS:

Water Bottle- Water is good for you... and the fact that this bottle is super cute and matches my bag is just a total coincidence, I swear! (It's totally not)

Notebook- You never know when you're going to need to jot something down or draw a diagram. Or make a paper airplane. #iamamatureadult

Wallet- Very necessary for spontaneous coffee trips!

Pencil Case- AKA where I keep all the random things I don't want floating around in my bag. Pens, bobby pins, receipts...you get the picture! This cute little one was bought at Sportsgirl a few years ago.

Sunglasses- I live in Australia. These are needed every single day.

Hand Sanitiser- I'm a total sushi addict, but I always feel gross eating with my hands without washing them first! This saves me every time! This is the Palmolive Raspberry scented one and it's great.

Lipstick- This is my holy grail lipstick, Maybelline Colorsensational in Totally Toffee. It goes with everything and I wear it basically every day!

Hand Cream- L'Occitane hand creams are something that I am very passionate about, and this almond one is my absolute favourite!

Snack Bar- Your brain needs fuel! I always end up getting hungry between lectures so I keep one of these in my bag. It's a Naturally Nood Berrylicious bar, and it's basically just pressed dates, cashews and raisins. It tastes amazing and it's pretty healthy too!

Headphones- My beloved rose gold Happy Plugs! I get SO many compliments on these, I love them so much!

Cardigan- For some reason our lecture theatres are always antarctic temperature, and I always freeze after about half an hour of sitting still! So I keep this in my bag to prevent dying of hypothermia.

Laptop- Need I explain? A pretty vital piece of equipment in my opinion!

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! What handbag essentials can you not live without?
Sending sunshine and happy vibes to you all!

July Playlist

Sunday, 24 July 2016

Hello my lovelies! It's playlist time again! I've been on holidays from uni basically this whole month, which means I've been driving around in the car a lot more than usual, roadtripping home and back and catching up with lots of friends. Nothing cheers me up like driving in the car with my music up loud, so this month's playlist is a special mix of all my absolute favourite songs to sing (very loudly) in the car! I hope you enjoy them (and sing as loudly) as I have been!

Champagne Problems- Nick Jonas.

Red Dress- MAGIC!  I've been absolutely addicted to this one! Especially seeing as I just got a new red dress that I'm totally in love with haha! (See my Op Shop Haul post)

Lovers Friends- Mowe, Daniel Nitt

Desert- Paces, Guy Sebastian

Bacon- Nick Jonas, Ty Dolla $ign.

Kiss and Tell- Ludomir, Sowl. This one is another super catchy tune that I've had on repeat!

Renaissance- Steve James, Clarity

Blind- Feder, Emmi

Where I Wanna Be- ARIZONA. Something about the chill vibe of this song just makes me so happy!

Who Do You Think Of? -M.O

Better- We Are Friends, Grant Genske. Dedicated to all the friends and family in my life that make everything better!

False Alarm- Matoma, Becky Hill

Perfect Strangers- Jonas Blue, JP Cooper. My fave song to listen to before a night out!

Millionaire- Cash Cash, Nelly. One of my absolute faves from this month, it's ridiculously catchy to sing in the car!

Summer On You- Sam Feldt. So, so much love for this tune!

Spaceship- Comet Blue

Let Me Hold You- Cheat Codes, Dante Klein

wRoNg- ZAYN, Kehlani

Sit Still, Look Pretty- Daya. The theme tune for every strong, independent woman out there!

Thief- Ookay

Party All Night- Sean Kingston. So everyone who watched the Inbetweeners movie will definitely recognise this song! I just watched the movie (a few years late, I know!) and have had this song stuck in my head ever since!

I hope you guys enjoy these songs! You can find the playlist on Spotify here. Please let me know what you've been listening to lately, I'd love to know!
Here's to an adventurous August!

Semester 2 Goals

Friday, 22 July 2016

It's that time of year again...tomorrow I will be heading back down to Uni to begin another semester! Whilst attempting to pack (much more dancing than packing has been happening at this point!) I've been thinking over what I'd like to achieve in my last semester of pre-clinical Med, and I thought I'd share some of my ideas with you guys!

Study:

  • Go to the library more to study. I'm very good at getting distracted when I study at home, and I've always found that going to the library puts me in a really good mindset where I get things done!
  • Try the Pomodoro Technique. I've heard a lot about this study method and I think it's time I try it! I'm a really bad procrastinator when it comes to study, and I think this method could really help me to get over that! (click here for info if you don't know what the Pomodoro Technique is!)

Life:

  • Keep up with my blog! I've been terrible at this lately, mainly just because I've been out of ideas to write about. However I have the next month's posts all planned out so I hope to be back on top of my game here!
  • Surround myself with positivity. I'm at a point in my life right now where I just don't have time for any unnecessary negative influences. Whether it means unfriending people on Facebook or even in real life, if people don't add positivity to my life then they've gotta go! I've started following more inspirational Instagram accounts and surrounding myself with positive quotes, and you wouldn't believe the difference it can make!

Health:

  • Practice mindfulness. We've actually learnt a lot about mindfulness and its benefits in our classes, and I think it's a really valuable tool in staying mentally happy and healthy! I recently downloaded the Headspace app to try and help me with this-I've yet to try it out but will get back to you all when I do!
  • Walk to class more often. Walking to class is an amazing way to fit a bit more exercise into my day whilst also giving me time to clear my head! Plus I save on fuel if I'm not driving so much, so what excuse do I have?!

So there's my main goals for Semester 2, although I'm sure I've forgotten a couple! I have so many cool things to look forward to this semester, including a trip to Brisbane to see Troye Sivan as well as our Medicine Ball and many other things! I'm excited to get into it all again-although it's always tough, I have some wonderful friends and family by my side who always keep me going!
Here's to being the best version of ourselves, every single day!

My Favourite YouTubers

Saturday, 16 July 2016

So I'm one of those people who spends quite a lot of time watching complete strangers talk on YouTube. It seems to me that YouTube is this whole world which you're either a part of, or you don't understand at all. Most of my friends don't really watch YouTube and don't quite understand where the attraction for it comes from. I actually had a good friend ask me the other day 'why do people watch YouTube? I don't get it?' and that really got me thinking in trying to answer his question!

For me, I think it's mainly a form of escapism. I really enjoy being able to live in someone else's life for a little bit while watching someone's video (much like watching a movie or reading a book). I also love finding people who seem to have a similar outlook on life to me and feeling more 'understood'- the same way as blogging! I find that once you've been watching someone's videos for a while (especially if they're vlogs) you feel more connected to the person and almost feel as if they're a friend. I also love watching the videos of bloggers I know or read, as it's always such a surprise and so lovely to hear them talking in real life (I bet none of you are imagining me saying this in my part aussie/part kiwi accent haha!)

So without further ado I though I'd just mention a few of my favourite YouTubers. Some of my absolute favourites who I've been watching for years include:

Dodie (aka Doddleoddle/ Doddlevloggle- Dodie just seems incredibly real and down to earth, she struggles with the same kind of things that we all do...in my eyes she's just nailed 'imperfectly perfect', if that makes any sense!

Dan and Phil (Danisnotonfire and AmazingPhil)- I like them both separately, but any video where they're together is just so much funnier!

Zoella- I just want her life, honestly!

Vivianna Does Makeup- mostly for her non makeup-related videos. Anna just seems so lovely and I totally aspire to have my life together like she does! I love her vlogs and lifestyle videos so much!

Giovannasworld- Gi is honestly one of the cutest people ever! She's so lovely and positive about life, while still staying so real and down to earth! Her and her husband Tom (from McFly) have been my OTP for years, and now they have their two sons I love them even more!

Now for some newer discoveries! These next few are all YouTubers that I've discovered over the last couple of months, and I'm loving all of their videos so much!

Shy Life Living- I absolutely love Sophie's Monthly Moments videos, I think they're such a lovely way of sharing some little snippets of your life, and I somehow just find them so calming and nice to watch! I'd love to start trying to do something similar sometime!

Through The Glitter Glass- Saira just makes me smile so much! She's such a natural to making videos and she's always so cheerful and lovely to watch! She always makes me super jealous of the wonderful things she gets in her hauls as well...forever wishing I lived in the UK and could buy the same things haha!

Rhiannon Ashlee- Rhiannon is another simply lovely lady to watch, I adore her vlogs as she's so independent and really makes you feel like you're a friend following along with her. She's also due to have a baby any day now, so I'm waiting with huge excitement for the announcement!

Alex Martinez- Alex has such lovely videos that are so professionally done! I love all her stationery hauls and school-related posts, and always end up incredibly jealous of her monthly favourites! She finds some really lovely things that always have me wanting to go and buy them for myself straight away!

So there's my list... I'd love to hear why you guys watch Youtube, and who your favourites are!

3 Places You Need To Go In New Zealand's North Island

Monday, 11 July 2016

As a kiwi girl living in Australia, I often find myself missing my home country an awful lot and wanting to re-live all my memories in any way possible! So to accompany my reminiscing and wanderlust today, I thought I'd write up this little feature on my 3 all-time favourite places to visit in the North Island of New Zealand.

June Playlist

Tuesday, 28 June 2016
If you're in need of some new music to get your soul dancing again, here's an hour of awesomeness to get you started! I've had so many favourite songs this month, so I had such a hard time cutting it down to just these ones!

All I Wanna Do- Martin Jensen. This song is just so addictive! If you listen too hard to the lyrics it gets maybe a bit creepy, but hey, it's got a good beat!

Close- Nick Jonas, Tove Lo.

I Wanna Know- Alesso, Nico & Vinz. Sounds best played really loud in the car whilst singing along as loud as possible. Trust me, I know!

On My Own- Chris Holsten, Rat City.

Into You- Ariana Grande.

The Ocean- Mike Perry, Shy Martin.

Sex- Cheat Codes, Kris Kross Amsterdam.

Wonderful Life (Mi Oh My)-Matoma. Yes, I actually included a song from the Angry Birds movie-please don't judge me! I promise it's the most cheerful song you've ever heard and it always puts me in such a good mood!

Stick Around- Akon, Matoma.

Find Love- Matoma, dboy. Noticing a theme here? I may have been a little bit obsessed with Matoma this month!

Sing Me To Sleep-Alan Walker.

Insecure- Shane.

A Little Too Much- Shawn Mendes. This one doesn't quite fit the vibe of the rest of this playlist, but I'm honestly so in love with this song. I swear it healed my soul when I first heard it, it just makes me feel so happy! Definitely give it a listen if you've been finding life a bit of a struggle lately!

Under You- Nick Jonas. I'm basically addicted to the whole of Nick Jonas' new album, it's so good!

Walls- Kretsen, OMVR.

Be As You Are JordanXL Remix- Mike Posner.

Your Type- Carly Rae Jepsen.

That's it for this month's playlist-as always, you can find it on Spotify here!

I hope you all had a wonderful June! What songs have you been loving lately? Do you have any amazing adventures planned for July?

Op Shop Haul

Friday, 24 June 2016

Hey guys! So anyone who knows me also knows about my huge passion for op shopping. It's been one of my favourite things to do for years and I seem to have a knack for finding some great pieces! Recently I've scored quite a few awesome bargains, so I thought I'd share them with you all. This was my first time taking outfit photos, so do let me know what you guys think!

Book Review- A Love That Never Tires

Tuesday, 21 June 2016

Well, after my last post talking about how excited I was to get back to blogging, I ended up stuck in bed with a horrible virus for a few days! So sadly I don't have any exciting adventures of my own to update you all on, but I do have a new book review today! After all, what's a girl to do when sick in bed other than read an entire book in one day??

A Little Life Update

Saturday, 11 June 2016
I'm back, guys! Exams are finally done and I couldn't be happier to be free again! I apologise profusely for disappearing for so long, but yknow, sometimes uni just has to come first.

My exams went alright-I've had a bit of a yucky semester with a big breakup and a lot of changes going on in my life, so I can't say that my focus was the best it's ever been. I'm just glad to put this semester behind me and move onwards and upwards! I can't believe that at the end of this year I'm going to be halfway through my degree-half a doctor! It's terribly exciting and completely terrifying all at the same time!

In other news, it's officially winter here in Australia now, meaning the temperature has occasionally dropped below 25 degrees and I actually wore a jumper the other day! So far we've just been having so many clear, sunny but slightly cool days which is so lovely!

I have a few new songs that I absolutely adore at the moment which I thought I'd share with you guys! I've been loving songs with a bit more of a relaxed vibe recently, I've put my 'Chill' playlist up on Spotify so feel free to go check that out here! A few of my current faves are:
Like Real People Do by Hozier
Best Fake Smile and When We Were On Fire by James Bay
Insecure by Shane (I'm listening to this right at this moment haha!)
Only Love and Old Pine by Ben Howard
Mess Is Mine and Straight Into Your Arms by Vance Joy
I hope you guys enjoy these songs as much as I have been, I've been listening this playlist over and over lately!

I'm currently reading 'The Well at The World's End' by A.J. Mackinnon. I started it yesterday and am already up to Chapter Seven! This is the second book of his that I've read, I really love the quirky, witty style of his writing and the spirit of adventure that infuses all his stories. I'll keep you updated but I'm really enjoying this book so far!

I think that's about it for now, I won't bore you all with any more little details! I have a week to just chill out now before I drive home next weekend, so I'm planning on doing a lot of reading, catching up with friends and maybe a cheeky little bit of shopping too! Oh, and blogging of course!

Sending you all lots of love and light!

My Five Dream Travel Destinations

Sunday, 22 May 2016

This post began as a bucket list of all the things I'd love to do in the future, however I got to the first point (travel everywhere!) and couldn't seem to stop writing, so my travel dreams are getting a post all of their own!

I was brought up in a family that absolutely loves to travel-I've had a passport since I was 18 months old and we've never really lived in the same place for long!  The result of this has been that I am well and truly stuck with the travel bug and I'm continually dreaming of where I can go next... So, without further ado, here are the 5 destinations that are at the top of my (immeasurably long!) list of places I want to travel!

1. UK
I couldn't pick just one country so I cheated a little...I have so many places I'd love to go here, mainly places that I have heard about from my father (he's from England) or heard about in songs, movies and books. I absolutely love Irish music and would love to spend some time there admiring the scenery! The same goes for Scotland as well-I have so many places I want to go there that I don't have any clue where to start! I think I'd need to spend at least a year in the UK just to go to all the places I've dreamt about! We're actually going to England this Christmas so hopefully I'll get to tick at least a few places off the list!

2. Peru
I love hiking and ancient history fascinates me, so the thought of hiking the Inca Trail and seeing Machu Picchu makes me extremely excited! I have always said I'll go there one day!

3. India
The colours, the people, the culture....it all just seems so different and magical! I know I'd be totally out of my comfort zone there....but there's a saying that goes 'Life begins at the end of your comfort zone' and I totally agree! Outside of your comfort zone is where the most glorious lessons are learnt!

4. Italy
Does anyone else happen to be following Brooke from World of Wanderlust on snapchat? She's in Italy at the moment and I am seriously drooling with jealousy over all the gorgeous places she's going! Aside from the amazing scenery and food, I'd also love to visit historical places such as the Colosseum and Pompeii-like I said, I'm a total nerd for ancient history!

5. Canada
I actually lived in Canada when I was four but sadly I can't remember it! I have such a thing for hiking and mountainous scenery though, so I definitely want to go back and explore absolutely everywhere! It just looks so stunning in every single photo I see!

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! Where do you want to travel next?

May Playlist

Monday, 16 May 2016

My May Playlist is finally here, and it's definitely a good one this month! There's so many awesome songs I've been loving lately that I'm super excited to share with you all!

May has been a happy month for me so far-although I've had a lot of work to do, I've also had a lot of those headspin, huge grin kinda happy moments which has been wonderful. It's so lovely to feel like myself again!

You may notice that a few of these songs have come from Eurovision-I have a seperate playlist of all the Eurovision songs that I've been playing on repeat to keep me pumped up and feeling cheerful!
Anyway, enough rambling-here's my playlist of my happiest songs from May!

Hair- Little Mix.

Love Yourself- Justin Bieber. The anthem for anyone getting over a breakup, right?

Girls Like- Tinie Tempah, Zara Larson.

Sparks- Hilary Duff. This one is just SO catchy!

Rock Bottom- Hailee Steinfeld, DNCE. My friend plays this in the car almost every morning when we're driving to class and I'm still not sick of it!

No Guts, No Glory- Cassio Monroe. Soo addicted to this one! You'll know exactly what I mean as soon as you get to the chorus!

Loin d'ici- Zoe. Austria's entry in Eurovision was in French, and although I don't quite understand the reason for that, I thoroughly approve of this song! It's so lovely!

Make Them Wheels Roll-SAFIA. You know that feeling after you go to a concert or festival when you're sad it's over and wishing you could do it all again, so you listen to all the songs over and over again? These two SAFIA songs have been the ones helping me get over my post-festival blues, reminiscing about how good they were live!

Listen to Soul, Listen to Blues-SAFIA.

Miracle-Samra. The perfect song to sing along to as loudly as possible!

Can't Stop The Feeling- Justin Timberlake. THIS SONG. Honestly it just makes me so happy and cheerful!

I've Been Waiting For This Night- Donny Montell.

Give Me Your Love- Sigala, John Newman.

No Money- Galantis. This one is almost as silly as Peanut Butter Jelly and just as catchy! I challenge you to not get it stuck in your head!

Secret Love Song- Little Mix, Jason Derulo.

Poison- Martin Garrix.

Hurricane- Halsey.

Breathe- Seeb, Neev.

Paradise- Matoma, KStewart.  I love the tropical kinda vibes that Matoma have in their music, and this is no exception!

So that's it for this month's playlist! You can find it on Spotify here. If you're looking for some more song inspo, you can find my April Playlist here!
What songs have been keeping you guys going in May? I'd love to hear them!

New Makeup Purchases

Saturday, 7 May 2016

Hey guys! Recently I've acquired quite a few new makeup items, most of which I have been seriously loving! I thought I'd share my thoughts on some of them with you all. Oh, and please don't go thinking I spent my life savings on these because a lot were bought at the Priceline 40% off sale recently, and a gift card I had to use at Myer! #bargainhunter

EYES:

Maybelline The Nudes Palette. Confession time-this is the first proper eyeshadow palette I've owned. I love it so much! The colours are all gorgeous, so easy to use and really blendable. There's so many looks you can create with this and I love that it has suggestions on the back as well.

Revlon Photoready Eye Art in 060-Peach Prism. I've been lusting after these for SO long, they're absolutely stunning! I chose one of the most neutral colours I could find as there's a lot of very pigmented blue and green shades in the range, which look gorgeous but I'm not sure I'd ever find the excuse to wear! The cream base side is lovely to use and is super long lasting. I'm not so sure about the glittery side, I think I'm still working out how to use it, but the sparkle is just beautiful!

Australis Eyeshadow Primer. This is my first eyeshadow primer and I'm kicking myself that I've never used one before! It makes everything look so much brighter and last so much longer, I love it!

Revlon Ultimate All-in-One Mascara. I was quite dubious of this when I first unwrapped it, as it has the tiniest mascara wand I've ever seen...and it claims to be super lengthening and volumising! However after using it a few times I'm really liking it-it takes a little more effort to get the effect you want but it's so worth it as it seperates and lengthens your lashes really nicely!

LIPS:

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in 050-London Posh. This is definitely my least favourite of these recent purchases... the consistency is very strange and sticky, the colour doesn't go on evenly and doesn't stay very long either. I'm not too impressed with these, which is disappointing as think the packaging is gorgeous and would have loved to have more in my collection!

Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick in 107. I finally caved in and bought this one after seeing recommendations for it literally everywhere! I also rather love the fact that it's a lipstick with my name on it-score! It smells amazing, a really fruity/berry kind of scent in my opinion, and it has a lovely smooth texture. I haven't actually worn it properly yet so I can't comment on it's staying power, but I'm hoping for good things!

FACE:
Maybelline Fit Me Matte+Poreless Foundation in 120-Classic Ivory. I've been considering trying this for quite a while as I've seen a lot of good reviews. So when I saw it on sale for half price the decision was easy! The colour is a pretty perfect match for my skin tone which is great, and it has fairly good coverage-a little lighter than I might have preferred but still good.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 10-Light. I really like the colour of this, it's really good for highlighting and brightening your face. I haven't quite found a way to stop it creasing yet though, and I do still like the age rewind concealer a bit more. Nevertheless it's my go-to concealer at the moment!

Have you guys tried any of these products? I'd love to hear what you think of them!

OOTD: Festival Edition

Tuesday, 3 May 2016
Hey guys! So yesterday I had the most fantastic day at a music festival called Groovin The Moo and I thought I'd share a few details and a cheeky little OOTD with you! I apologise in advance for the terrible quality of these photos-I was obviously having too much fun to remember to take some good ones!

Groovin is a one-day event that happens every year in my town. I've actually never been before as it's quite expensive, but I'm definitely glad I went this year! Some of the highlights included Twenty One Pilots, Safia, and Alison Wonderland-as well as Odesza, who I actually missed but I'm sure were amazing!
Roomie love <3
As for my outfit...
Top- Dotti
Shorts- Factorie
Shoes- Rubi Shoes
Necklaces- Cosmetics Plus

I was pretty proud that I managed to put together an outfit that was super comfy and also pretty cute, if I do say so myself haha! The shorts are by far the shortest I've ever owned but I really love them (I have so much trouble finding things that will fit me, so I was super excited to find these!) and my outfit just came together really well on the day so I was rather happy!

I had the best time dancing and laughing with my friends, the weather was just perfect and it was just an all round fantastic day!

The bestest bestie of all besties that ever existed <3 <3 <3

Have you guys been to a festival recently? Please no one say you went to Coachella because
I may die of jealousy!
Love, peace and happiness to you all!
