31/50 | A Goodreads Update

Sunday 16 July 2017

Hi guys! As many of you might know, the book website Goodreads allows you to set a goal and record the books you read each year. My goal for the year was to read 50 books, and so far I'm doing pretty well, having read 31 books! I thought I'd talk you through a few of my favourites so far this year.

The Weird Sisters: This was my first book for the year! I read it in one day as it was on the shelf at a B&B we were staying at, so I had to read quick if I wanted to finish it before we left. It was such a wonderful book to start the year off, rich in love and family values and so uplifting!

The Girl On The Train: This was another one that I read in only one day, as it was so thrilling I just couldn't put it down! The story really reels you in and keeps you guessing right until the end. If any fans of psychological thrillers haven't read this yet, I'd thoroughly recommend it!

Finding Wonders: My best friend bought me a book subscription box for my birthday (she knows me too well!), and this was the book that came in it. Aside from having the most gorgeous cover, it was a lovely quick read as it's written in verse form and features stories about three girls who changed science. The story of Mary Anning and her fossils always sticks with me as it calls to younger Kate who wanted to be a palaeontologist and discover all kinds of dinosaurs!

Burial Rites: This one was also a birthday present, and I absolutely adored it! It's definitely a bit darker than most books I read and probably not something I would have picked for myself, which is why I'm so pleased that I liked it. The story is set in Iceland in 1829 and focuses around a young slave who has been accused of murder and sentenced to death. It's exploration of spirituality, survival, freedom and love will stay with you long past the last page.

The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet:
This has to be my absolute favourite book of the year so far. I don't even know how to start describing it- it features a collection of eclectic characters who make up the crew of a wormhole building ship. I fell in love with all of the characters and (ironically, considering only two are human) their humanity. I still haven't got my hands on the second book, but I can't wait to read it!

For more details on all of these books, feel free to check out my Goodreads!
What should I read next?

  1. I've never read any of these books yet, but I've been tempted to read Girl on the train. I just couldn't let myself pick it up myself since everyone was talking about it haha! Maybe this time I'll have to do that. And also the Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, I also have to grab myself of that copy!
Thank you for your recommendation x
