Life Lessons Lately

How's that for some alliteration in the title?! #whatanerd
So life seems to have been intent on teaching me some lessons in the last little while! Most of these have just popped up in every day life and I thought I would share with you some of my silly mistakes and lessons learnt so that you don't repeat my embarrassing moments...oh, the life of a 19 year old uni student!

1. Don't drink (a really big) coffee before a doctor's appointment!
So, being a medical student myself, I could go into all the ridiculous details of what caffeine does to your body but you don't need to hear all that to know what happens when you drink an extra large coffee! Basically too much caffeine can increase your heart rate, blood pressure and generally make you feel all jittery, which is a REALLY BAD combination for someone like me who gets super nervous for no apparent reason going to the doctor! The combination of a big coffee and all my nerves leaves me feeling so jittery and uncomfortable while sitting in the waiting room...and also lead to a somewhat embarrassing moment when the doctor first took my blood pressure and it was waaay above normal! After taking it a second time all was fine when I had calmed down a little, but next time I will certainly make a point to stay away from coffee before a doctor's appointment!

2. Don't put down ex-boyfriends/girlfriends/friends in general. Unless of course they did something terrible such as cheating on you etc. Although there may be some bad feeling hanging around after a break up or friendship falling apart, it's really disrespectful to joke about things that were completely serious to you both at the time. I've recently had a couple of messages with my ex-boyfriend and I actually really enjoyed just a little catch up to see how he's been. He's grown so much as a person since we were together and really seemed to find his feet in the world, which I'm proud of. Although I've thought badly of him in the time since we broke up(laughed about how he didn't really know what he was doing and was always so clumsy etc), this has made me remember that there was a time that I really liked him and the reasons for that! Although we've both moved on now, it makes me feel that little bit wiser and more mature to be able to be friends again.

3. Being nice to others just might make you be nice to yourself
Recently when I was scrolling through twitter I noticed several sad statuses that really jumped out at me-people feeling stressed, feeling down, or generally just having a rough time. Usually I might have just felt a bit sad for the person and kept scrolling past, but for some reason this time I didn't. I took a minute or two to really think and write a thoughtful message to a couple of these people, in the hopes that I could cheer them up even a little bit. The responses I got were so lovely and I really believe that I might just have made a little difference to the world with those comments. After putting just a bit of positivity into some other people's lives, I was left feeling so warm and fuzzy that I managed to help people. I felt happier, more energised and more inspired than I had in quite a while(hence this post!) So if I can recommend anything to you today, it would be to go out and make someone else's day. Like someone's outfit? Tell them! Really enjoy a blog post? Leave a little comment to let them know! Think someone is having a hard time? Take a moment to reassure them that everything will be ok.

Life is a continual lesson of making mistakes and learning, but remember-the power to change the world is in your hands, right in this very moment. Use that power wisely!

I hope you all enjoyed this post, leave me a comment with the lessons that life has been teaching you lately!
