Hey guys! I'm back with another book review for you! I've been super busy with Uni so I've been a bit slow getting through this one, but I'm finally finished and can tell you all about it.
What happens when 'happily ever after' has come and gone? This book tells the story of Snow White from a new perspective, showing us what happens after the fairytale ended. Queen Snow White is now aging and has lost her husband-along with her desire to continue living. The discovery of the magic mirror in a disused corner of the castle forces her to confront many demons from her past and find new meaning in the phrase 'happily ever after'.
3 REASONS YOU'LL LOVE THIS BOOK:
1. I'm a huge Disney fan, so I found it really intriguing to consider the story of Snow White both before and after the events of the film, and in a lot more depth. I really enjoyed getting to know this version of Snow White a lot more and seeing what life looked like from her view. Definitely worth a read to get a different perspective on the classic story!
2. The book features some very serious issues that would have never been considered in the classic fairy tale, such as child abuse (and it's aftermath) and suicide. The Snow White of this story had a lot more substance to her and faced issues that many others also do in life, making her a lot more relatable.
3. It has a happy ending(yay!) and reminds us that no matter how hopeless things may seem, we are all capable of overcoming hardships in our lives.
My only criticism of this book would be that I did find Snow White's helplessness and numerous episodes of crying to be a bit frustrating at some points, but I imagine that I would be just the same having lost my soulmate!
I'd thoroughly recommend this book to any other Disney fans out there who want a deeper look at the story we know so well!
