August Faves & Playlist

Wednesday, 31 August 2016

Hi guys! I'm gonna be completely cliche here, but seriously, where has August gone? It only feels like last week that I was writing my July favourites! August has had its fair share of stress and confusion in my life, but I'm finishing on a high point feeling pretty on top of my study which is really good! I've had a few products that I've been really loving this month, so I though I'd share them all with you.

Savvy Ultra Matte Lip Colour in Lights, Camera-
This is such a great matte lipstick for a really affordable price! The Ultra Matte range only cost $8 each and the quality is pretty good for that price. They're quite creamy, although still a bit drying on the lips as most matte lipsticks tend to be. This lipstick is definitely not kiss proof, but stays put pretty well the rest of the time and the colour is gorgeous, I've had so many compliments on it! (I'm wearing it in this Instagram post if you're curious what it looks like on!) I'm definitely considering picking up a couple of other colours from this range.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in Light-
I tried my sister's one of these a few months ago and have been wanting to get one of my own ever since, so I finally bit the bullet and bought one. It's an amazing highlighting concealer, the best I've found yet to hide my uni-induced dark circles! It hardly creases, and the only issue I have with it is that the sponge applicator tends to give out a bit too much at once, but it definitely makes sure I look very awake for my classes!

Maybelline The Blushed Nudes Palette-
A rose gold eyeshadow palette full of gorgeous shades? I was never going to be able to resist this! I've been using this so much lately, especially all the shades on the left. I'm really impressed with how easy to blend these Maybelline eyeshadows are, they're so lovely to work with!

Garnier Micellar Water-
As you can see from how empty the bottle is, I've been using this quite a lot lately. I'm not entirely sure what its intended purpose is, but I've been using it as a general makeup remover before getting in the shower and it makes my skin feel so lovely! I definitely think I'll be investing in a bigger bottle when this one runs out!

Thankful Journal-
I bought this at Kikki K about a month ago and I'm seriously loving it! Basically it has space for you to write three things you're grateful for each day, and I find this such a lovely relaxing thing to sit down and do just before I go to bed. I'm not that great at remembering to use it but it definitely makes me a lot happier when I do, so I'm aiming to start making a habit of doing it every day!

Phone Case-
I found this gorgeous copper and marble patterned phone case in Sportsgirl a few weeks ago and didn't think twice about buying it! I mean, copper and marble, how much more blogger cliche could I get? Sadly it's chipping a bit on the edges already as you can see! I still love it, but I'm definitely hoping to invest in a really nice quality phone case sometime in the next few months.

So that's it for my favourites this month! Have you tried any of these products? What have you been loving lately?

My next post is going to have an extra special themed playlist in it so I thought I'd skip making a whole post on this month's playlist. If you'd like to listen to my August Playlist on Spotify, you can find it right here!

Wishing you all a wonderful September!

Turning FOMO Into GOMO

Monday, 22 August 2016

As a medical student, total introvert, and someone who's generally in bed before 10pm, I tend to suffer a lot of FOMO (AKA fear of missing out) in my life! So many times I'll be too worn out or busy to go to an event, but will then end up regretting not going for at least the next week...the sadness is so real! Social media and the numerous platforms where we can share just how cool our lives are have made this even worse, with me being able to get real-time updates on that cool party my friends are at while I'm stuck in the library studying yet again. A few months ago I decided that I wanted to try and change this, and I've actually been doing pretty well at getting rid of my chronic FOMO problem, so I thought I'd share how I've been doing it!

How to turn your FOMO into GOMO:

  • Stay balanced. You can't enjoy your 'going out more often' if you're burnt out or stressing about other things in your life! I like to use the events I have planned to motivate me to get my study done efficiently and without procrastinating (and trust me, I've tried everything to stop myself procrastinating!) I find having fun things planned really encourages me to be more organised and get things done so I can go out and have fun guilt free! It's also important to make sure you're scheduling time for yourself, especially if you're an introvert like me- going out too much can be completely exhausting so make sure you're putting yourself first!

  • Mix it up. It's way too easy to get caught up in thinking 'there's nothing exciting to do in my town!' I'd bet a lot on that not being true though! There's so many things to do when you think outside the box. Try rock climbing or ice skating, going exploring in your town, going to a party you wouldn't normally have, joining a class or uni group (if you're a student of course). I try to spread the events I pick between different friendship groups and totally different activities, and I always try to get out of my comfort zone a bit. I've even started signing up for things that none of my friends are going to, and just trusting that I can always meet people and make new friends! It's not as scary as it sounds once you get started, and it's such an empowering feeling once you realise how much you can do for yourself! I hear the phrase 'just say yes' thrown around all the time, but it's honestly the best thing to start doing!

  • Put your phone down. I always know I've been having fun when I realise I haven't even thought of picking up my phone for a few hours! Yes, photo evidence of fun things is great, but contrary to popular belief, if photos don't exist it did still actually happen! (Ooh controversial, I know) In this day and age it's even more essential to get some screen-free time where you can just enjoy the moment for what it is- without having to upload it to Instagram 5 minutes later!

  • Stuck for inspiration? I have the solution! Eventbrite are determined to squash your FOMO by turning it into GOMO with their innovative site that can help you find or even plan your own events.  If you want to find what events are happening in your area, definitely check them out-it's the perfect way to find out what's going on in your town! I've actually discovered a few events in my area in the next few weeks that I'm thinking of signing up for, so I'd totally recommend giving it a go!

So how are you guys going to turn your FOMO into GOMO?

Brisbane Lush Haul

Saturday, 13 August 2016

Hey guys! My adventures in Brisbane last weekend led me into Lush (oh, what a surprise) and I picked up a few goodies that I've been drooling over for quite a while now. My room currently smells like a Lush store and I'm not complaining one bit! I thought I'd share these with you now, as I'm sure they're going to disappear rather quickly!

Think Pink Bath Bomb-This one looks and smells very similar to the Fluffy Egg Bath Bomb that Lush brought out at Easter, which is totally OK with me as Fluffy Egg is one of my favourite bath bombs ever. I love the colour this goes in the water, and combined with the sweet scent it's just the ultimate pick-me-up!

Sakura Bath Bomb- I just had to pick this one up in honour of the trip to Japan my family will be going on soon! The description reads 'Imagine the cherry blossom falling softly... in a warm gentle breeze into your bath'...how cute! This one has a really gentle scent and I can imagine it will be so relaxing to use.

Sex Bomb Bath Bomb- Anyone else got the song stuck in their head? Because I definitely do! This bath bomb has scents of jasmine, sage and ylang ylang and it smells absolutely divine! I can tell it's going to look amazing in the bath as well. I absolutely can't wait to try it!

The Experimenter Bath Bomb- I've been wanting to try this one for so long, it's so colourful and I've seen it feature on Instagram so much! It has a lovely vanilla scent, but I am wondering what this will look like once the colours mix in the bath-I can imagine it might turn a wonderful shade of grey? I'm going to find out!

Frozen Bath Bomb- This is another bath bomb I've had my eyes on for ages! I was so surprised when I smelt this bath bomb, I thought it was bound to have a cool minty kind of scent-but it's grapefruit! It was totally unexpected but also works so well. The blue bath bombs are always my favourites so I'm really excited to try this one out!

Did you catch my last Lush Haul? Have you tried any of these bath bombs? What are your favourite Lush Products?

Brisbane Adventures

Thursday, 11 August 2016
Hey guys! Last weekend I went on a bit of a whirlwind trip all the way to Brisbane! I flew down to meet my Mum and sister for Mum's birthday, and we managed to squeeze an awful lot of exciting things into two short days...so I thought I'd tell you about some of the things I got up to!

I caught a flight down early (VERY early!) on Saturday morning. My plane got in a couple of hours before my family's so I just sat in a cafe and did some study while I waited for them to arrive... #medstudentlife

After I'd met up with my fam, we went out for lunch at the Pig n Whistle (10/10 would recommend!) The food was amazing, and I also discovered that Rekorderlig strawberry lime cider is amazing! Unfortunately I also discovered that there's 1.6 standard drinks in a bottle after I'd finished it and was decidedly giggly (ok not really that unfortunate haha!)
